Look at my life

Here you will find photos that probably do not have much to do with my work or research, but I want to share them nonetheless, probably because they look nice.

Nicosia, North and South

I had the amazing opportunity to attend a workshop on wildfire governance. The focus was on discussing wildfire governance and policy between every relevant stakeholder, from farmers to hunters, foresters, firefighters, politicians and everyone in-between.

During and after that workshop I walked around the capital city of Nicosia, currently divided in half, to a north and a south side. How you want to call these two sides (North v South, Turkish v Greek, Occupied v Free) is on you.

The green belt / buffer zone between them was otherworldly. The silence, the abandoned buildings, the neglect, the militarism went to the core of the divide. I could not take photos of that, unfortunately.

Labros, the best boy

Labros the Labrador, currently 10 years old, the best boy. Not much more needs to be said. I love him. Enjoy.

Paella, Delicious

The first conference I attended as a PhD student was in Valencia, the capital of Paella. My supervisor insisted I tweet about my experiences. However, being about 1 month in my PhD I did not have a network and did not know what to talk about, so I tweeted every one of the 11 paellas I ate while in Valencia. Here is a selection of the ones I found. One of them is from Tesco. Big props to Wuquan who knows how to use a camera and take wonderful food photos, most of these are his.

My Printers, some of them custom

Back at home when referring to a printer one had to specify whether they meant paper printer or 3D Printer. It does sound like something you would hear in one of those movies where a 6 year old kid makes his own humanoid robot but it was true! I have had a few of them over the years, some of them I had customized and really liked.

Frequent moving meant keeping all of them was very difficult, so I had to sell them. At least selling them meant I took nice photos of them. My favorite is the transparent one, where you can see everything that is happening. I fried the electronics on that printer (twice). It was a lecturer’s printer which I fixed then destroyed. I then fixed it with my own money, then borrowed for a few weeks, then COVID happened which meant I could not return it, so I kept it. I did all the electronics, wiring, and changed some of the structuring as well. It did not sell for much.

Pictured: Imark Startt (black with green supports), CTC3d Bizer (Transparent, highly customised), XYZ Davinci Jr. 1 (really did not like that one.
Not pictured: Wanhao Duplication i3 v2 (my first one, left at home, still works). Ender 3 v2 (currently the only one I own and use).
